Tell us a little about yourself

I am a neurologist and sleep physician and an avid sports fan.

What is your favorite food?

While I can eat just about anything, fish tacos are the first thing that comes to mind for my favorite food.

How long have you been at DIG?

While I have always been an active person, I wasn't in peak physical condition for my age. I joined Dig at the beginning of 2016 because I wanted to challenge myself both mentally and physically. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

What has Crossfit helped you with the most?

Crossfit has improved my core conditioning, endurance, and overall strength. My successes at Crossfit can be attributed our trainers, Brody and Steven, and to the encouragement from fellow Dig members. Brody and Steven have been fantastic at improving my lifting technique. My drive to challenge myself is driven from watching other Dig members push themselves to their limits.

What is your favorite lift?

The deadlift is my favorite lift. When I first started, my form was awful. Thanks to our trainers, my form has improved considerably.

What's your favorite holiday treat?

My favorite holiday treat involves anything with pumpkin, whether it's pumpkin pie, pumpkin Blizzards, or pumpkin bread. I am grateful pumpkins are seasonal, because I would easily undo all my hard work at Dig from eating so much if they weren't.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to try Crossfit?

To anyone considering Crossfit, you should tell yourself it's not 'if' I start, but 'when.' After a few weeks of training you feel better physically. But more importantly, you will excel mentally. The satisfaction one receives from succeeding daily at Dig will give your confidence a boost in areas outside the gym as well.

NOVEMBER 2016

Tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Teal. I am a first grade teacher at Stayton Elementary. I have been married to my amazing husband, Tyler, for 4 years and we just had our first child, Sarah, in June. We also have two fur children, our dogs, Kuma and Turk. I really like to travel, spend time with my family, and do crafts.

What is your favorite food?

My absolute favorite food is a tie between chocolate cake and ice cream! Both are horrible for me, but it's hard not to love cake when you grow up with the professional baker for a mom. My favorite 'healthy' food probably has to be apples and Trader Joe's peanut butter. It is the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

How long have you been at DIG?

I started at DIG in July, 2015. I had been doing Crossfit at another box in Salem since 2012, but wanted a gym closer to home. I really like working out in the morning, and the schedule and commute at DIG made it possible for me to train before work.

What has Crossfit helped you with the most?

Crossfit helped me stay healthy throughout my pregnancy! The coaches at DIG did a great job modifying the WODs to accommodate my growing belly. Because of this, I was able to work out up until a week before my daughter was born.

Not only that, Crossfit helped me lose the dreaded baby weight, too! I was back in the box at 3 weeks post-partum, lifting with lighter weights and getting cardio back into my workout regimen. It's amazing how much easier it is to do burpees or box step ups without the bump and added weight! Slowly, I increased the intensity as my body continued to heal. Now, at 5 months postpartum, I am back to wearing my pre-baby clothes and am stronger and healthier than I was before I got pregnant. I do more Rx workouts than I ever did before!

What is your favorite lift?

Back squat or Deadlift--they are my heaviest lifts and I always feel like a bad ass when I do them

What's your favorite color?

Purple

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to try Crossfit?

Don't be intimidated. Crossfit is hard for everyone when they first start! Give it time and you too will become addicted.

Also, don't be afraid to scale or modify workouts to meet your needs. Our coaches are great at modifying each WOD to challenge you at your current level of fitness. DIG is really supportive of everyone and has a great community feel. Come join the DIG FIT family!
